At St. Werburgh’s Park Nursery School we plan an exciting and meaningful curriculum for children children’s interests and learning and we feel that using food is key to their learning experiences. Staff plan tasting and cooking of food with children on a regular basis and during these times children are also taught about the importance of high levels of hygiene e.g washing hands, wearing an apron and keeping hair away from food.
You may have seen media reports recently regarding food hygiene ratings in schools. Please be assured that we take all hygiene standards here extremely seriously and as such have a detailed Management System for catering that ensures food safety checks are carried out at each day – this includes fridge temperature checks, cleaning checks, cooked food temperature readings etc. When you come into school you will see that our kitchens are kept spotlessly clean throughout the day. In addition all staff have had Food Safety Hygiene Training and some have had it to commercial catering level.
We are pleased to say, that following an inspection by Environmental Health today, we have been allocated four stars under their safety rating for compliance with food hygiene, safety, management and control procedures.
