Here at St Werburgh’s Park Nursery School, we have been developing our Curriculum. The Curriculum is how we plan for children’s learning.
This September the government introduced a new statutory framework for the Early Years, which sets out exactly what children need to learn in their time up until the end of their Reception year. A child’s year in nursery is an important part of their Early Years journey. The framework sets out what children will learn and the Curriculum sets out how we plan to support them with this learning.
We have now put the details of this curriculum on our website for you to see. Click here to view in full!
We have planned learning around six key themes:
- Being happy at nursery
- Learn a Nursery Rhyme
- Make something to eat
- Make believe
- Tell a story
- Solve a problem
Within each theme, children will experience a wide variety of learning, which covers all of the subject areas within the curriculum. These include:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
- Literacy
- Maths
- Understanding of the World
- Exploring Art and Design
The first three subjects are known as the “Prime Areas”. These underpin the whole curriculum, providing the key skills for a child’s development.
Please find some time to have a look on the website at our new Curriculum.
We will be encouraging you as parents/carers to engage with our curriculum and to support your child’s learning at home. We have developed an excellent resource on our YouTube channel to help you with this. We will also be adding to this resource each term as curriculum subject leaders create films and activities to support each stage of our curriculum. We will let you know as soon as a new film is ready for you. These short films will contain information about why we teach what we do and some top tips on how to do this at home. We will often also include simple, easily accessible activities that you can use at home.
To launch our new curriculum we are inviting you to come into school and take part in a workshop with your child. We had hoped that we would be able to invite you inside your child’s classroom; however, we have decided that this would be better done outside at this current time.
On Wednesday 24th November, at 8:45am and 3:15pm, each class will have a spider-making workshop! Recycled resources will be provided so that you can make a spider with your child! Our theme this term is “Learn a Nursery Rhyme”. You will be able to take your spider home and use it with your child to recite the Nursery Rhymes we are learning. We will be learning “Incy Wincy Spider” and “Little Miss Muffet”
We really hope you can join us! We will be planning events across the year, so even if you are unable to make this one, we hope you will be able to attend a future activity!
Best wishes,
Mandy Collier-King,
Acting Headteacher
